Task # 1

1.

1. Google Calendar: in my opinion Google calendar is pretty interesting. It very easy to use, I mean user friendly, easy to share, easy to compare for planning or designing a meeting or a project. We can assign different colors to distinguish between the members, but we can distinguish 21 members only, but to my knowledge for any project this may be a good option. We have a quick add option which is nice to add an event quickly like Google calendar itself will fit this on the calendar if we just mention the starting and ending time in our sentence. We can repeat an event according to our own requirements like we can fix the end date for repletion, we can fix the starting date, and we can give our own days in the week. We can print these details, we can view these details by daily or weekly or monthly or even next 4 days, so it will be easy to compare. We can even note an event on a date if we don’t know the exact time of the event. One other good thing about Google calendar is we can distinguish between the present day and other days in the week, we can know the present time on the calendar marked in a red line, we can even check the weather on the top line of the calendar which helps to take some more decisions based on weather if there are any. We can even add places to the events and reflect them on the map. If we are using windows vista we can even download this Google calendar as a gadget on to our side bar, it seems we can even add an event by an SMS, we can add this on to our IGoogle, etc.

2. MyOffice on Facebook : After using Google calendar I started to explore MyOffice on Facebook, but I haven’t found it that interesting, adding an event is not so easy when compared to Google calendar, even we can’t fix the finish time, we can’t repeat the events, we need to add same event repeatedly by fixing everything, even creating a project is a tricky thing, but I found sharing of the calendar is much easy when compared to Google calendar, we can feel to whom we are sharing just by a click and it shows all the members and we can distinguish the sharing members and others by the blue outline and a small tick mark on their photo, I feel like using Facebook is always an uneasy task for me. We can add evens or projects form friends. Even we don’t have much setting options like we have weather, time line, color differentiation or distinguishing from the members or looking all the members’ calendar at a time or to view some at a time.

3. ZOHO Project: ZOHO Project looks more interesting than MyOffice on Facebook, it has more options and looks advanced by means like we can share files or documents, we can prioritize the tasks we can fix meetings, we can post comments for discussion, we can fix milestones, we can distinguish task by their preferences, completion, priority, need of work for that particular task. It looks more professional to be used by the companies to calculate the billable time and other stuff, and it seems we can manage different groups at a time and be a member of different groups. Finally my conclusion on this ZOHO Project is it looks more professional.

4. Yugma: Even this collaborative program looks like more professional; it has different subscriptions like free trial, monthly billable, yearly billable, professional 20, 100, and 500. I signed up for a free trial 15 days one, here I saw almost similar features like scheduling a session, conducting it like a chatting, it looks it doesn’t have much features like some in Google Calendar not in the other means, it seems we can have individual discussions I mean private discussions and group discussions. From their features it looks like we can conduct a meeting in such an effective way like conducting a meeting in an office even the team members are across the globe, it seems we can even record, playback the sessions and webcast it. It has desktop sharing, teleconference, customized widgets, Windows, Mac and Linux compatible, etc.

Task # 2

1. I used PICNIK to edit this photo, and I posted the unedited and edited photos on my Freewebs blog. Here is its link:

Image editing software’s

First of all I found the difference between vector image and raster images, and then I started looking for different editing software’s.

I found good number of photo editing software’s for raster image editing software like

picnik                    http://www.picnik.com/ ,

picture2life         www.picture2life.com

preloder              http://www.preloadr.com/ ,

pixenate              http://pixenate.com/ ,

snipshot               http://snipshot.com/

I found picnic as a good one when compared to other these three sites because it changes instantly and we can know the difference, but in other we have to edit them first and after a reload it will show us the difference. We can even use for free, I tried this and even many of them but some of them cost like $200 or more. I tried their trial versions but many of them are not full, I mean we can’t use them with all the options we can just can have a glimpse of them not much. But I used picnic to a reasonably good level and I am pretty much comfortable with it. I personally know some other image editing software’s like picasa, adobe photoshop, etc.

I have not found good number of software’s for vector image like

Xara X                   http://www.xara.com/products/xtreme/?v=pro&t= ,

Illustrator            http://www.soft32.com/Download/free-trial/Adobe_Illustrator/4-342-1.html

CorelDraw http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=CorelCom/ProcessLayout&lc=en&ppg=CorelCorp/Trials/DownloadContainer

I have even found http://www.adobe.com/products/fireworks/   but it look like too complicated for me I am even not able to download the free trial, I found a link which says experience creative suit 3, when I clicked it, it says try creative suit 3 but after clicking it I found a web page and no other links to download. But even the other things I didn’t understood much of its usage; these are not too simple as I thought before clicking them.

I am in group 2.

Our group answer for 1st question is at

From ZOHO:  http://naveengente.wiki.zoho.com/Learning-unit-8-NAVEENGENTE.html

From Wetpaint:  http://dhazimihalis.wetpaint.com/

I’ll be going to use MS word 03/07 for the time being, because I used to it, in future I may use ZOHO because I felt like it is a bit easy to use.

Comparison of facebook, ning, LinkedIn, pownce and friendfeed
Facebook: Facebook is like we can add any number of members or friends under different categories like co-workers, classmates, etc. all we need is just a valid email id. We will have options like to keep our information secret or public, we can add members based on our preferences like our school, our place, our work place, company, common interests, and so on., we can even delete our contacts if we don’t want to have  them on our list. We can see our friends updates like photos which are shared or the ones which we have the access. We can sell or purchase items locally, we can create event lists, and share it with our friends, and we even have stumbleupon on the Facebook.

Ning: Ning is an organized link where we can create groups, and invite people to join them, we can control whom to join the group, share the opinion on something, discuss about something, debate, fallow discussions step by step, create different groups and continue on different topics paralleley, we can customize our own page, how it looks, etc. we can even add gadgets like radio or some other gadgets like that. We can share photos and videos with our friends.

Linkdin: Linkdin is a professional network group; it’s more like formal like used by many professionals, I mean like a manager to pick some talented persons for his work, a person to pick someone for his company as employee, and so on. It is more like telling our self like a profile and different people look at it in different manner, like if you are an employee you can look for an employer and if you are an employer you can look for some suitable employees by their qualifications. We can even run discussions to find different opinions of different people on the topic. We can even look for jobs.

Pownce: Pownce we can group friends under different banners. We can post notes, share files and send events and plans. We can add friends from other friend’s lists and from some common networks. Many of other features are same as of the other social networking site which discussed above.  Friendfeed: The main thing in Friendfeed is that we can know what our friends are browsing and if we have anything to pick up from those sites. We have an extra option like we can add some services like face book stumble upon, Google talk (gtalk), twitter, etc., we can fallow our friends on these networks and can know what they are doing by their posts, we can even know what they are doing on all the networks we added.

Finally, my conclusion is, it is hard for me to decide what to go with, because every social network discussed above has their own plus points. If we talk about Linkdin it is best for professional life, Ning has versatile options which help us more, and easy to use, Friendsfeed is strong  at knowing all the updates at a place, Facebook is a more fun kind of stuff. So it is very hard for me to choose one from them, if I have to choose one from them I’ll go for Ning, because of its huge options to use from.

In this section I had a better knowledge of web pages. World Wide Web WWW is the most common word in now a day’s discussions, as it became so easy that anyone with a little knowledge of internet and some other computer application knowledge can create it. It’s not that easy even in some cases where it needs security of the site, where there is a money transaction or some identities which need to be kept quite confidential and lots of data to handle. Some of the web-site like social network site will bring our near and dear ones together make life easy with a better communication; make our life fun with pictures and videos sharing and lot more like this. Some other websites provide us with lots of information about virtually anything in the world. Finally to mention, internet and website have applications which are endless and beyond our imagination….

“A blog is a personal diary, a daily pulpit, a collaborative space, a political soapbox, a breaking-news outlet, a collection of links, your own private thoughts, and memos to the world. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules.”

“In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what’s new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you, or not.”

– One of the internet sources says. I think there is no such perfect definition about a blog and a blog means a way to express your feelings or opinion about anything the world. There is no rules imposed on theses blogs or they have no limitations ion what public discuses on these blogs. There are millions of blogs on internet now, but it all started a decade in the past.

Originally a blog was defined by the service you used or the host or by the tool you used to create the posting. There are three main features of a blog: the first is reverse chronological order, the second is unfiltered content — the second somebody filters or edits the author it’s no longer a blog — and the third is comments.
